A proposed $30 million eco-resort and fauna park in the Whitsundays is set to receive funding from the Queensland government.
In an announcement by tourism minister Jan Jarratt, Ozone Whitsundays will receive $75,000 as part of the state government's Growing Tourism Investment Grant program.
"This concept has a real point of difference from other resorts in that it will include a native fauna park and also provide outdoor activities which are not available elsewhere in the region," Ms Jarratt said yesterday (January 23).
"The proposal also aims to offer guests a unique native-animal experience, a range of soft adventure activities, and opportunities to be involved in endangered species conservation."
The tourism minister explained that while the site has already secured development approval, the project has been seeking additional funding to get underway.
The eco-resort will feature almost 150 accommodation rooms, as well as a restaurant, bar and retail space.
Two conference centres, a wedding area, stables and arena will also be available.
The outdoor area will include a high ropes course, beach volleyball and tennis courts, swimming pool and children’s water activities, outdoor cinema and walking tracks.
