More commercial property and other construction projects are getting underway in Western Australia than anywhere else in the country, a new report shows.
The Deloitte Access Economics December quarter 2011 Investment Monitor indicated that more than a quarter of construction projects are taking place in the state.
At present, it is estimated that a third of all projects that have either been committed to or are under construction are in Western Australia, totalling $140.1 billion.
Treasurer Christian Porter highlighted that although the region is far from immune to the pressures of the global financial markets, it continues to lead the nation with solid investment growth.
"Inclusive of all project status categories, the December quarter estimate is that WA has $267.2 billion worth of current and potential projects, representing 29.3 per cent of the total investment committed to or under construction in the nation," he continued.
Among those projects currently underway in the area is the construction of a new $1 million emergency services centre, which is to be built in Margaret River.
Meanwhile $700 million will be spent to build Burswood Stadium.
Deloitte also noted that mining construction projects accounted for 46 per cent of the total amount of investment under construction or committed to in Australia.
