Australian gardening guru Costa Georgiadis has been named as the host of the 2012 Living Smart Glossies Awards on Queensland's Sunshine Coast this June.
The landscape architect, who found fame with the SBS show Costa's Garden Odyssey and now fronts the ABC's Gardening Australia, will celebrate the best of green building and sustainability with Sunshine Coast residents and businesses.
The Living Smart Glossies Awards highlight the region's best examples of resource management, sustainable building design and construction, transport and even edible landscaping.
"He’s an eco-visionary who believes in treading lightly," said Sunshine Coast Council's climate change and environment initiatives coordinator Sally Wright.
Sunshine Coast residents are eligible to self-nominate for Living Smart awards in a number of categories, including Excellence in Sustainable Design, Sustainable Transport, Living Smart Solutions, Resource Saver, Greening The Arts, Enviro-Business and Affordable Living.
Nominations for the awards are open until May 14, with the ceremony to be held at Twin Waters on June 15.
Earlier this month, one Sunshine Coast resident was rewarded for green building upgrades to her home by the local authority.
Jane Batzloff was presented with the prize of a weekend at the Coolum Golf Resort after her family turned to solar panels as an alternative option for electricity generation and made a number of other green improvements to their home life.
