An apprenticeship with Hutchinson Builders can be an experience providing lifelong rewards. In recruiting our apprentices we primarily seek candidates that have the potential capacity to manage a future Hutchies project. However we don’t limit our selection to only these candidates and we have opportunities for apprenticeships and traineeships in:

-Carpentry

-Plastering

-Tiling
-Bricklaying
-Formwork
-Painting
-Plumbing
-Electrical
-Concreting
-Steel fixing

With more than 160 apprentices in place at October 2009 we believe attitude and aptitude are the two most important things we look for in candidates along with a clear commitment to a career in construction.

Qualification levels

Candidates with Certificate 1 in general Construction or equivalent (with exposure to multiple trade routes and structured workplace experience is our preferred entry level qualification).

A Year 12 level education is desirable (with a ‘C’ level pass in Maths and English) however we will employ candidates with a only a Grade 10 qualification where there are obvious attributes in other areas or clearly quantifiable vocational skills.

We also have a program available to our apprentices (indeed all staff) that enable them to pursue Grade 12 qualifications in parallel with their apprenticeship studies. This means that upon completion of their apprenticeship many of our newly qualified tradespeople contemplate further studies in construction management at University.
