The Hutchies culture is not easy to describe yet is so easily understood.
We are a company that prides itself on its ‘family’ culture and we seek out (and attract) high-calibre people.
We are a company that has, at its core, a team philosophy that is clearly apparent each and every day – there is a real sense of being there for one another.
We believe in nurturing the skills of our team members and providing growing levels of responsibility.
Above all Hutchies has a commitment to a sustainable work/life balance that provides an active social club, a full calendar of events and functions throughout each year, a number of inter-team sporting competitions, fishing trips, cycling groups, events where family and friends are invited and a number of annual awards recognising talent and enthusiasm.
We value, and jealously defend, our relationships with contractors, clients, suppliers, unions, government and the media.
At Hutchies you will find an organisation built upon collaboration, communication and innovation.
We have an exceptional financial capacity, an impeccable reputation for integrity and fair dealing and a very co-operative and flexible approach to contractual relations.
Working for Hutchies
In 2012 we celebrated our centenary year and hope to have a similarly successful next 100 years. We have more than 170 projects under construction with an expected turnover for FY2013 of $1.3 billion and we employ more than 1300 full-time staff.
Our organisation is structured around a series of teams that effectively operate as a self-contained business unit responsible for the cost-effective management of their range of projects.
Typically each team consists of apprentices, trainees, cadets, tradespersons, supervisors, managers, contracts administrators, project managers, forepersons, site managers supported by a core of administrative staff.
The team-based structure provides opportunity for diversification of learning and skills development and provides many avenues for individuals to advance their responsibility levels.
Our employees are highly skilled and motivated. Experience has shown us that one of the fundamental keys to achieving and sustaining high levels of motivation within our workforce is a comprehensive and committed approach to the design and implementation of professional and personal development programs.
At Hutchinson Builders we work hard at nurturing a workplace that is safe and rewarding and achieves a healthy balance with non-work life.
Our work environment has been borne out of the fundamentals that underpin a family culture of honesty, integrity, compassion and a commitment to staff, clients and workplace partners; and this culture has been nurtured over more than 100 years.
We believe that any community, be it a family, a sports team or a workplace is built on sound communication, a spirit of collaboration and a commitment to innovation.
The Hutchies company structure is a ‘flat’ structure based on more than 20 teams each reporting to the Managing Director, Greg Quinn. The esprit de corps in each team is encouraged and nurtured.
Hutchies promotes an open door policy and team leaders, management and individual members of the board readily make themselves available to any staff member wanting to discuss matters on any topic.
At Hutchies we are proud of our culture and jealously defend it as a way of life.
