About the role
Hutchies is currently seeking for a Junior Cost Planner to join our Toowong office in a full time capacity. This position will support our national estimating teams, whilst providing training and skills development to pursue a career as a Cost Planner.
About the team
You will be part of a tight-knit internal team responsible for assisting Hutchies’ industry-leading estimators and cost planners across the country. The work is varied and you will gain unequalled exposure to jobs of all shapes and sizes, and across all aspects of cost planning and estimating in the numerous sectors Hutchies works in, all while retaining your traditional quantity surveying skills.
Hutchies’ cost planners and estimators are highly regarded in our business, they are actively involved in projects from start to finish with the design and construction teams, and they’re recognised for their hard work through our annual Estimator of the Year Awards. You’ll get the opportunity to take pride in your work, be responsible for your own projects, work autonomously, and be mentored and trained by Hutchies’ senior team of estimators, cost planners and quantity surveyors.

- Read and understand drawings
- Document control
- Completion of trade and elemental take off
- Assist in pricing of estimates for cost plans and tenders
- Liaising with key subcontractors for pricing
- Undertake site visits and assist the site team in preparing variations to submit to the client
- Ability to use appropriate software and technology eg Microsoft Office and CostX
Preferred skills and experience
- Currently undertaking or recently completed a recognised tertiary qualification in quantity surveying or construction management
- Excellent communication skills both written and verbal
- Strong attention to detail
- Ability to work in a team environment whilst achieving independent goals
- Desire to develop a long-term professional career in cost planning and estimating
