Pickle,please
Toowong’sfirstPickleballChampionship
Not even a Brisbane downpour could stop the Toowong office’s first Pickleball Championships.
When the rain came in, the committee moved the courts, BBQ and drinks down to the carpark. Twenty-five teams turned up ready to play.
And the winners are…

Congratulations to Annabelle Watts and Nick Clegg, aka “Dink Un-Responsibly”, who flew the flag for Team Crittall and took home the trophy!
Their win topped an afternoon full of real athleticism, with some genuinely impressive rallies between the dinks and dives. Fair to say a few people were a lot more serious about it than they let on.
Safety first (thanks, Team Crittall)
After Team Greg Crittall’s antics at trivia night, Jimmy Andersen wasn’t taking any chances, so we had our very own paramedic on standby! Conveniently, he was the brother of one of our committee members.
Thankfully, his medical expertise wasn’t required, so he traded first aid for a paddle and even jumped in for a round.
Two umpires, one microphone
Harry White and Cade Witham were our umpires for the afternoon. Harry brought the microphone and the volume, while Cade brought the style and was dressed well above the required standard for local pickleball umpiring.
Yellow and red cards were handed out throughout the afternoon, with anyone receiving a yellow forced off court to eat a pickle.
Some players thought they could get away with pretending to eat theirs. They could not. We have video evidence. Naming and shaming to follow.

Dressed to dink
Everyone got into it, and the costumes did not disappoint. Between the outfits and the team names, the carpark felt more like a festival than a car park.

Thank you
A huge thanks to Katrina Stack and Leiha Lenehan for organising, and to everyone who played, cheered, umpired, and somehow found themselves drinking pickle juice in the name of sport.
If the afternoon proved anything, it's that Hutchies has a lot of competitive people. See you on the court next year.
