Hutchies' Design, Engineering and Technology Centre at Toowoomba Grammar School has won two honours at the 2026 Master Builders Queensland Downs & Western Housing & Construction Awards.

The project took out the Erlandson Finance Group Project of the Year Award, the top honour of the night, along with the Education Facilities over $15 million category.

The awards recognise Hutchies’ Toowoomba team led by Sean Lees, who delivered the $16.5 million facility in East Toowoomba.

Project of the Year is judged across all category winners, so the result places the building above every other entry on the night.

Built over a basement carpark, the three-level centre gives students and educators the space, tools and technology to learn, create and collaborate. It features dedicated facilities for woodwork, robotics and virtual reality, along with a full-length lecture theatre and modern learning spaces.

The upper levels add flexible design spaces, function areas and lecture facilities that bring hands-on learning and new ideas together under one roof. The centre was designed by Sims White Architects, with engineering by Kehoe Myers Consulting Engineers.

Master Builders judges inspect every project entry as part of the judging process. The award reflects both the quality of the finished building and the effort that went into delivering it.

Congratulations to Sean Lees and the entire project team in Toowoomba.
