Holy Spirit Care Services engaged Hutchinson Builders to construct its award winning Coral Sea Gardens aged care facility in Cairns. The development incorporated a range of community facilities to enable the highest level of independence and inclusion, featuring a chapel, function room, maintenance areas, café, servery, kitchen, hairdresser, and physio rooms. The facility includes 38 independent living apartments over four floors as well as a semi-basement car park.

As part of its value management process, Hutchies relocated air conditioning condensers from apartment balconies to a common location on the ground floor, providing additional liveable space on the balconies and providing easier service access. As the site was a large area, we used the soil from the adjacent site for fill on our construction area. By doing this, the soil matched our site. We used the imported fill at the end of our contract for the adjacent site, which will have a basement in the future.
