Year of first project
Hutchies has completed a series of 10 projects for the University of the Sunshine Coast, totalling more than $34M. Ranging from building extensions and refurbishments, the work included the award winning Engineering Learning Hub, Resources buildings and Gympie Learning Hub.
Built on the Sippy Downs campus, the $20.7M Engineering Learning Hub is a state-of-the-art, 5 Star Green Star benchmarked learning and teaching complex. With around 6,500m² of floor space over four levels, the learning and teaching complex features an integrated suite, including world class visualisation theatres for immersive learning at USC and USQ. The technology features the combination of visualisation techniques, and 3D and virtual reality technologies to allow students to see and interact with life-size 3D simulations of objects and spaces. With a range of teaching spaces, including flexible tutorial rooms and studios for large and small group teaching, the building incorporates a 96-place science teaching laboratory and associated preparation facilities. It also includes a modern learning common area for non-timetabled learning and collaboration, dedicated spaces for postgraduate students, an advanced computer laboratory, staff offices and interaction areas, a student administrative centre, and spaces for students, staff and the community to engage and collaborate. The building was awarded the 2015 QMBA Sunshine Coast Project of the Year Award and the 2015 QMBA Sunshine Coast Commercial Building over $5M Award.
Built to provide a dedicated USC facility in Gympie, the Gympie Learning Hub includes a 75 seat lecture theatre, a skills development laboratory, tutorial rooms, study areas for students, staff offices, and interactive learning technology to connect with USC's Sippy Downs campus. The facility is spread over two floors, providing a total of 1,750m² of floor space
Hutchinson Builders also constructed a dedicated resources building for USC, to provide a facility to accommodate the USC Mail & Print Services, as well as offices for Human Resources, Marketing, Communications & Information Management Services, and an IT Services workshop. The facility incorporates a mail room, printery, loading docks and a computer workshop on the ground floor and spacious, open-plan office areas on the two higher levels.
