Hutchies Modular delivered the new Blackwater Multipurpose Health Service, strengthening access to healthcare in central Queensland. The project formed part of a concurrent regional package, delivered alongside the Moranbah health facility. Delivering both projects at the same time supported consistent quality across two remote locations.

The 1,860 square metre facility was built off site in Hutchies’ controlled modular yard. The project team transported the completed building 847 kilometres to Blackwater for installation. This approach improved build certainty and reduced waste, energy use and carbon emissions.

The facility includes a 12‑bed inpatient unit, an emergency department, medical imaging and X‑ray services, allied health spaces and treatment rooms. It also includes an isolation room, an ANTE room, a commercial kitchen, laundry, and decontamination and sterilisation areas. Full medical gas services support a wide range of clinical needs.

Each space was carefully planned to meet the needs of the Blackwater community. The new facility supports essential healthcare services for the town and surrounding region.

Modular construction allowed us to tailor the layout and finishes while keeping delivery efficient. The project continues our long history of modular health facilities across regional Queensland, beginning with the Moura community hospital and the Alpha Emergency Hub. These earlier projects helped prove the model and shaped how modular healthcare can support communities that have limited access to skilled labour.

The new Blackwater facility now supports acute care, emergency care, aged care, visiting specialists, psychiatric services and community health clinics. It plays an important role in improving access to healthcare in one of the state’s remote regions and demonstrates the ongoing value of modular delivery for essential services.
