Bringing Essential Health Services to Far North Queensland.
Hutchies delivered the new Cow Bay Primary Health Care Facility for Cairns and Hinterland Hospital and Health Service and Queensland Health, located in the heart of the Daintree Rainforest.
Completed in July 2025, this project marks a significant milestone in improving access to healthcare for one of Queensland’s most remote communities.
Built on a greenfield site with no existing infrastructure, the project presented unique challenges from the outset. The team navigated cyclone-damaged roads, restricted access routes, and over 2,600 mm of annual rainfall.

Remote design, local delivery, and essential services brought together.
Oversized roof sheeting was locally roll-formed adjacent to the site to preserve the architectural vision, while the facility was powered by a solar and battery system with generator backup. Bore water was processed to meet health clinic standards, and communications were linked back to Cairns Base Hospital to ensure safety for both staff and patients.
We’re proud to have succeeded in delivering this critical project, largely driven by building strong relationships with our clients as well as the project’s user groups. We also maintained constant collaboration with the architect and client representatives, and delivered on our commitment to using local suppliers and subcontractors wherever possible.
