Hutchies has delivered the new Normanton Hospital in a major move for the Health sector in the Gulf.
This purpose-built facility gives the region modern healthcare close to home and reflect the character and culture of the community it serves.
The new hospital offers expanded services, upgraded clinical spaces, and a warm and welcoming environment shaped through close consultation with Traditional Owners, local government and health consumers. Every space was designed to suit the Gulf climate, with shaded verandas and open areas that promote comfort and connection.

North West Hospital and Health Service acting chief executive Andrew Quabba said the facility marks a step change in local care. He said the hospital gives teams the space and tools they need and reduces the long travel often required for treatment. He also highlighted the strong community involvement throughout the project.
Hutchies delivered the new hospital through a collaborative process that honoured local voices. The facility includes an emergency department, 18 inpatient beds, consultation rooms, a dental surgery, pharmacy and x-ray services, and ambulance bay.

#Opening ceremony

The official opening brought the community together to mark the significance of the new hospital.
Her Excellency the Honourable Dr Jeannette Young, Governor of Queensland, led the ceremony alongside Gkuthaarn Elders Dianne Millwood and Richie Bee, and North West Hospital and Health Service deputy chair Eleanor Milligan. Community members, health leaders and company members attended the event.
As part of the celebration, a time capsule was sealed with contributions from residents, students and hospital teams. It captures life in the Gulf in 2025 and will be opened in 50 years.

Hutchies is proud to continue our long history in hospitals and health. We deliver facilities that support stronger, healthier communities, and we take real pride in helping regional Queensland access the care it deserves.
