The new Allied Health modular building in St George replaces the existing Allied Health facility, which was repurposed from the original maternity ward built in 1938.
The original building held strong local significance. Many company members working in the new facility were born within its walls. After more than 85 years of use, the building was no longer fit for purpose. It lacked space and the amenities required to support modern healthcare delivery.
The project formed part of a concurrent regional package, delivered alongside Allied Health facilities in Morven and Charleville. Delivering the projects in parallel supported consistent outcomes across multiple remote locations.
St George services a population of over 3,200 residents and is located more than two hours from Roma. The new facility provides an essential upgrade for the town and surrounding region. It ensures continued access to allied health services in a remote part of Queensland.

The new facility, built at Hutchies modular yard in Yatala, covers over 750m2 across 22 modules, and includes dedicated rehabilitation facilities, allied health rooms for physiotherapy, podiatry and child health, whilst also catering to staff with dedicated office space for up to 22 staff, and associated staff rooms and amenities. The new facility considers the adjacent river, with the building and critical infrastructure installed to cater for a 1 in 200 year flood event to ensure the continuation of services even after significant natural events. As part of the project in St George, Hutchinson Builders also installed a new site main switchboard and dedicated backup generator to ensure the whole facility can continue to provide service to the community at critical times, whilst also allowing for future growth at the hospital.
