Hutchies was delighted to be appointed as head contractor to restore and reactivate the iconic Capitol Theatre in Melbourne.
This project represented the coming together of a 93 year old landmark, with our century old family-owned business, both of which hold a long and respected history. Hutchinson Builders worked tirelessly with the client and their appointed project design team, consultants and relevant stakeholders to complete this sensitive restoration project to the highest standard.
We used the project’s community prominence, architectural character and busy CBD location to learn, create and innovate through construction. Clever methodologies enabled careful demolition, alterations, modernisation and restoration of the building throughout. New seating, carpet, foyers, DDA-compliant access, amenities, building services and AV equipment gives this important building a new lease on life. RMIT has become the custodian of the building to reactivate its use with students, academics and the film industry more broadly.
Hutchies is proud to have completed this project after undertaking similar restorations of The Palais Theatre, The Esplanade Hotel and Ormond Hall.
