Year of first project
Hutchies is fortunate to have been involved in the delivery of over 170 projects for Coles Supermarkets, one of Australia’s largest grocery chains. Work is executed under a variety of contract types, with the most common arrangement being design and construct (D&C), where Hutchinson Builders is engaged to complete the entire project from concept to handover.
Working successfully with a large chain such as Coles, requires a thorough understanding of the unique factors that represent the brand, and ensure they are faithfully replicated across every property to ensure consistency of identity and customer experience. With existing store design guidelines and standardised delivery framework in place, Hutchies’ challenge is to deliver a consistent outcome across a range of sites and locations that can vary widely in terms of conditions – including some with extremely complex considerations.
We are particularly proud of the cold shell fitout work completed for the Emerald, Bellbowrie and Fairfield stores, which each required clean-up works and a complete strip-out after the devastating 2011 Queensland floods. These projects were high profile, with some degree of urgency to return the amenities to flood-stricken communities. The individual projects were accomplished in 10, 12 and 14 weeks respectively – reduced from 18 week programmes, including the completion of flood clean-up, strip-out, fully integrated fit-out and delays due to the availability of refrigeration cases.
