By comparison, women represent approximately 13% of the Australian construction industry workforce nationally. We're performing above the industry benchmark across several key site-based, professional and leadership roles, while continuing to focus on increasing participation in trade positions.

We're at the forefront of female participation for site-based employment – with triple the industry average of women in high-paid, site-based trade roles. Almost half our workforce is site-based, and all are employed under enterprise agreements that are gender neutral.

We've been actively involved in promoting and supporting gender equity in construction since 1997 through our long-standing partnership with NAWIC – and as a founding partner of UNIQ You since 2021. From mentoring and career pathways to awards and industry events, we back organisations that open doors.

In 2024, we established a dedicated working group to drive our gender equity strategy. By mid-2025, the group was formally renamed the Equity Action Group (EAG) – made up of people from across Hutchies including team leaders, directors, project leaders and contract administrators. May Hendry Developing Women Fund

Named after a woman who helped keep Hutchies alive for more than 30 years, this annual fund backs women across the business to grow through courses, study, events or ideas. The key test is simple: does it help you grow, and does it add value back to Hutchies?

Certified WGEA employer

We've been reporting workforce gender statistics to the Workplace Gender Equality Agency since 2012. We have formal policies and strategies in place across all six Gender Equality Indicators.

We maintain a zero-tolerance approach to discrimination, harassment and bullying. Our Respect and Support Policy and Code of Conduct apply to every company member and are embedded through inductions, training and clear expectations.
