Construction has started on The Stanley, a 35-storey, 234-apartment tower that marks the next milestone in Sarazin’s long-term vision for Woolloongabba.
Government representatives, project partners and industry leaders gathered on site for the sod-turning ceremony. It came nearly a decade after Sarazin first acquired the land in 2016.
The Stanley is located at 8 Trafalgar Street, adjacent to The Gabba and about two kilometres from the Brisbane CBD. The site sits within the Woolloongabba Priority Development Area, 300m from Cross River Rail.
Economic Development Queensland approved the project. It has already secured more than $220 million in pre-release apartment sales, with almost half the residences secured before the public release.
For Sarazin founder and managing director Darren Dougan, the occasion marked the next leg of a journey years in the making. Drawing on a marathon and relay race analogy, he reflected on the persistence required to reach this point.

The Stanley is Sarazin’s third development in Woolloongabba. The first was Silk One, a 21-level, 172-apartment tower completed in 2022. The second is the neighbouring Murcia Residences, a 30-storey, 236-apartment tower Hutchies is currently building. The Stanley is Hutchies’ second project with Sarazin, and completion is anticipated in 2029.

The partnership between developer, financier and builder has been central to advancing the project from vision to construction. With planning complete and works about to begin, the focus now turns to delivery.
What Hutchies will build
GroupGSA designed the 35-storey tower, and WILD Studio designed the landscaping. Its defining feature is a double-storey rooftop amenity precinct that includes:
- An infinity pool
- Saunas and steam rooms
- A gym and yoga lawn
- A cinema and golf simulator
- Private dining, a wine cellar and residents’ wine lounge
- A boardroom and work-from-home spaces
A shared commitment to housing supply
Deputy Premier, Minister for State Development, Infrastructure and Planning and Minister for Industrial Relations, the Hon Jarrod Bleijie MP, said projects such as The Stanley show the value of collaboration between industry and government. He welcomed the start of construction and pointed to the need for more housing supply.

The baton passed
The sod turn marked more than the start of construction. It celebrated a journey built on persistence, partnership and a shared vision, from Sarazin’s commitment in 2016 to Hutchies’ expertise today. With the baton now passed, the focus turns to delivering a tower that will help shape Woolloongabba for years to come.
