The landmark Castle Residences will soon stand tall on Sydney’s busy Bathurst and Castlereagh Streets. Hutchies is thrilled to be working with United Development Sydney on their flagship luxury mixed use development designed by award-winning architects Candalepas Associates.

Construction of the 37 storey tower begins in late 2018 and will include the sensitive refurbishment of the 142 year old heritage listed Porter House building next door. The project brings together high-end apartments with five-star luxury hotel services and amenities – a distinctive offering in the Australian market.

Sitting above a 6 level basement, Castle Residences will be home to 131 stunning apartments. The stand out façade boasts beautifully crafted off form concrete domes on the lower floors which perfectly complement the repetitive moulded sandstone vaneer of Porter House. Beyond level 11 it will cantilever 12m off the side and continue up 27 storeys above – suspended gracefully over the Porter House building. The top of the tower offers 5 levels of stunning stepped sky gardens to its residents.

Porter House will offer 121 luxury hotel rooms over 10 levels. The building, formerly known as Dixson & Sons Tobacco Factory, was originally constructed circa 1876 in Victorian Classic Style and has a significant presence on the Castlereagh streetscape even with its relatively sympathetic scale. This development ensures it will continue to be an important piece of the urban fabric, especially with its close proximity to the adjacent St George’s Free Presbyterian Church.

Both residents and hotel guests will enjoy a range of amenities between the two buildings. The hotel will service the residences with room service, catering, housekeeping, laundry and maintenance – as well as full access to the hotel’s facilities (restaurants, bars, gym, pool and business centre), along with 24 hour security, concierge and valet parking.

Hutchinsons is well known for delivering projects in relation to major heritage restoration, high quality details, vertical scale and complexity in busy inner-city environments across Australia. In Sydney’s CBD alone, Hutchies has been responsible for a number of iconic towers including the nearby The Residence at Hyde Park and the soon to be completed Arc by Crown Group tower on Clarence Street.

Sydney’s Castle Residences are the closest you can get to life in a Manhattan hotel.

Porter House is aesthetically significant as an interesting example of an 1870s Free Classical inner city commercial building, with exterior painted signs it is a reminder of late nineteenth century and early twentieth century advertising.
