Designed by Scott Carver, The Residence at Hyde Park was a complex D&C conversion of the former police headquarters building in Darlinghurst, Sydney. The conversion includes 87 luxury residential apartments over 24 levels with three reconfigured basement car park areas.

Apartments range from two to three bedroom configurations, with average areas of 140m² and 200m² respectively. The two stunning penthouses are also three bedroom and feature 270-degree city and harbour views, across Hyde Park.

The challenge of converting a commercial building to high quality apartments required extensive planning thoroughly from the outset. By developing intricate staging of demolition and construction sequencing during the upfront tender process, Hutchinson Builders were able to immediately reduce the overall net programme for Galileo by more than four months.

Apartments started selling at around $1.75M in 2011 off the plan and now far exceed $2.1M, with the penthouses fetching more than $17M each. At the time of completion, these were Australia’s most expensive penthouses but have now been overtaken by another Hutchies project in Sydney - The Pacific Bondi, where both penthouses fetched a combined $21M off the plan and are being converted into one super apartment.

Since the completion of The Residence, Hutchies has also delivered Arena Apartments and Metro Residences at Chatswood for Galileo and their development partners.
