When it came around to Townsville’s turn to mark Hutchies’ 105th year, they chose a somewhat unorthodox venue for the occasion. But partying on a construction site is such a ‘Hutchies’ thing to do, it was more than fitting to celebrate 105 years of building and almost 50 years in Townsville by revelling on the site of the major redevelopment works we are currently undertaking at The Ville.

Chairman Scott Hutchinson spoke briefly at the gathering, telling the story of how Hutchies came to the city, initially taking over the J. Scott Company before establishing a presence as Hutchinson Builders in its own right. “And we’ve never looked back”, he said. “It’s a solid town and we’ll never leave – it’s part of who we are.”

Townsville Team Leader Mark Phillips thanked all the clients, architects, suppliers, and sub-contractors in attendance. “It’s you guys who help Hutchies do what we do”, he said. He also acknowledged long term employees Dave Christopherson, Noel O’Brien, and Pierre Kessler. Mark went on to mention some of the award-winning projects that Hutchies has completed in Townsville, like the Magnetic Island Walkway, ACT for Kids, and Stage Two of the Fairfield Gardens shopping centre
