On Wednesday we were joined by the Minister for Education The Hon Grace Grace and some keen students to turn the first sod on Stage 2 of FVSSC (Fortitude Valley State Secondary College). After successfully completing Stage 1 nine weeks early in 2020, we were excited to get back on ground at the school and get the next stage underway.
Yesterday was another very successful Clean Up Australia Day for our Hutchies' crew of 25 volunteers who picked up an incredible 302kg of rubbish on Minjerribah (North Stradbroke Island). The majority of rubbish was unfortunately washed up debris on the beaches including a lot of plastic, timber, rope, thongs, lighters and glow sticks. We really appreciate our volunteers' efforts to keep Australia beautiful for another year but we encourage everyone to continue the clean up - if you see any rubbish out and about, dump it in a bin to keep it clear of our oceans and waterways.
Each of us has a choice in everything we do to make a difference. To change the way we see things, and the way things have been. To truly understand respect. Together we can achieve better. So let’s all choose to challenge ourselves to do differently not just today but every day.
Hutchies’ coveted Estimator of the Year Awards began back in 1996 to recognise the stand out estimating talent we have across our company. This year is the first time in its history that two very deserving recipients were crowned co-winners of the 2020 Estimator of the Year Award. A huge congratulations to Simon McGilvray (Russell Fryer Team in Brisbane – joined Hutchies in 2011) and Ayman Khalaf (John Koumoukelis Team in Sydney – joined Hutchies in 2016). They will forever be part of Hutchies’ Estimator Hall of Fame!
Across Australia, Hutchies welcomed students into the new 2021 school year with a range of cutting edge learning facilities. Education projects have been a staple of our work since 1913 when Jack Hutchinson I worked on the original Manly State School, which we’ve just finished installing a new Hutchies Modular prep building there (in only 7 days!). Lots has changed in a century, and we’re proud to continue pushing boundaries with school facilities for our future generations to thrive in.
Very cool to see #hutchiesbuilt Walan in Brisbane and Arc by Crown Group in Sydney named as two of the best tall buildings across the globe in this year’s @ctbuh_hq Annual Awards! Walan was also named as the Best Tall Residential / Hotel Building overall for 2021. Well done to everyone involved on these two projects!

We need your help! @aeioufoundation's Triple Impact Day is ending in about 17 hours and is around $40k short of its $300k target. We are grateful for the amount of donations received so far, with a huge thanks to those who have already contributed. For those that missed it, Hutchies is tripling any donation received to our page (link in bio) by the end of the Triple Impact Day for AEIOU to bolster support services and resources for children with autism.
Hutchies is supporting @aeioufoundation's Triple Impact Giving Day by tripling any amount received via our donation page by this Wednesday 9 December (link in bio). AEIOU is one of Australia’s leading providers of early intervention for young children with autism, with a vision of supporting each child to live their best life. With all that has happened this year, AEIOU were forced to cancel most of their fundraising activities and are relying on these donations to keep supporting children with adequate services and resources. We really appreciate your help! Pictured is the #hutchiesbuilt AEIOU Bald Hills Centre.

Last week, Hutchies celebrated NAIDOC 2020 by hosting several COVID-Safe events across Australia, both in our offices and on our sites. In support of QATSIF, we worked in partnership with Australian Unity to hold Funky Friday Fundraisers, inviting our people, subbies and clients to wear their most outrageous shirt and bring a gold coin donation. The day was fun and filled with colour as people went about their daily tasks dressed in their Friday bests. Together Hutchies and Australian Unity raised over $2000 to go towards the great work that the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Foundation (QATSIF) does to support our Indigenous community. Pictured here is our Townsville Team displaying the Indigenous flags proudly on site. Always Was, Always Will Be.
These two projects could not be more different, but they have something very special in common! Both helped Hutchies make history on Friday night, where we were the first builder to take out both Project of the Year for Brisbane Skytower and House of the Year for Domic (Seaview Terrace) respectively at the QLD MBA Awards in their 33-year history. The result is testament to the careful, quality-focused approach of our construction teams who built these projects, and we couldn’t be happier with the result. Well done to all involved. A big congratulations to our Sydney Team and client @roxypacificholdings for taking out the Professional Excellence Award for Residential Construction $50M and above at the New South Wales & Hong Kong Professional Excellence in Building Awards, which live-streamed on Friday. The winning project, West End Residences, is a standout residential precinct, comprising two striking buildings, courtyards and communal rooftops. Located at 6 Elger Street, Glebe, the completely new build is situated upon the former Brickworks site. Designed by @TurnerStudio, the two buildings pay homage to the industrial inner-city Sydney suburbs of Glebe and Ultimo, along with the site’s brickmaking past by featuring arches, metalwork, corbelling and three different forms of bricks, totaling 485,652 individual units.

Hutchies’ Castle Residences project recently undertook the first phase of the truss installation weighing almost 60 tonnes! The trusses were installed 67 metres in the air off the side of a lift core. These trusses form the backbone that allows the next 25 levels to cantilever out 12 metres over the 142 year old heritage-listed Porter House building below. The careful planning of the truss delivery took 12 months to coordinate to ensure it was a success, involving oversized loads and overnight CBD road closures. The remainder of the steel structure will be installed over the next 4 weeks bringing the total weight of the truss structure to over 150 tonnes! Hutchies is thrilled to be working with United Development Sydney on Castle Residences, their flagship luxury mixed used development bringing together high-end apartments with five-star luxury hotel services and amenities. We’re also proud to be delivering another major heritage restoration project, entailing high quality detail, complexity and vertical scale all within the busy inner-city of Sydney.
Local firm Hutchinson Builders has secured a $54m contract to build James Cook University’s new student accommodation facility, with work expected to get under way next month.

A big shout out to Con-form Group for donating our new Honey Bees platform! The bees at our Toowong Office are now protected from the elements all year round. The worldwide declining bee population is something Hutchies feels very strongly about and we are committed to doing our part to help save our most important insect. We have hives at the majority of our offices and are the only company we know of in Australia boosting the colonisation of urban bee hives on a national scale. Thanks again Con-form Group from our Honey Bees to you. Hutchies “topped out” Ipswich Central last Friday with Ipswich Mayor Teresa Harding and our MD Greg Quinn marking the occasion. The new council administration building and children’s library has officially reached its full height, changing the skyline for the better and creating a modern and vibrant CBD for the people of Ipswich. Mayor Harding said the completion of the building’s structure was an important step forward for council’s $246M Nicholas Street redevelopment. “The council administration building and children’s library is due for completion in the second half of 2021, but the community will see other parts of the development open and ready to go before then … The topping out of this new building signifies that we are one step closer to reopening the heart of the city back to the community.” Find out more about the project on our website here: https://l.hutchi.es/93g (link in bio) ▪︎▪︎▪︎ #hutchies #hutchiesbuilt #hutchinsonbuilders #ipswichcentral #ipswichcentralcivicproject #nicholasst #ipswichcbd #ipswichcitycouncil #commercial #mixeduse #toppingout #ipswich #queensland #australia #building #architecture #construction
